On November 8, 2025, at Faith Lutheran during noon, the Coronado Cougar’s famous Women’s Soccer team went against Valley High Vikings. With their grit and determination, the Cougars kicked with their best foot forward. State is the all-stars and to compete for state, you need constant hard work and preparation.
“Leading up to state, we as a team had lots of practices, and we also watched a lot of film on ourselves and our plays,” senior Allison Kleiner said. “We also watched films on the team we were playing.”
With all of the hard work shown by the Women’s Soccer team, from the wins throughout the season and the chance for state, they came in second place. While in sports, second place isn’t always the spot you aim for, it is still an amazing accomplishment as they beat out many different high school teams.
“We finished in second and got State runner-ups, which obviously wasn’t the result we wanted, but it was still a huge accomplishment”, Kleiner said. “I think we did everything we could’ve done to win; we just didn’t get the result in the end. We lost 1-0 in overtime, so it was a very close game.”
Self-reflection is always best after the game. While the Women’s team didn’t get the big trophy they wanted, they still played an unforgettable match against Valley High and a reputation that shows the power and resilience of the Coronado Cougar’s Soccer team which next year will work their hardest for the chance at the title. With the season coming to a close, many of the players will have played their last game with Coronado as they are in their senior year, but it’s not the end of their soccer journey.
“I play defense, midfield, and forward in high school, and I love all these positions so much, and I would love to continue with any of those positions at Vanderbilt,” Kleiner said. “I chose Vanderbilt because I loved everything about it: the coaches, city, academics, and the conference is the best in college.”
With a bright future ahead for the seniors and another chance to play for Coronado High School next year for returning players, this end of an era is bittersweet.
“I am going to miss just getting to see my teammates everyday at practice and our pregame singing sessions in our portable before games,” Kleiner said. “This season was so fun and I am going to miss these girls so much.”
It’s the end of the season, but be sure for next year to support our Women’s Soccer team as they will show up everyday and practice for their shot again at the State title. Say farewell to the Seniors graduating and support them as they conquer amazing things in college, with or without soccer.
