On September 31, 2025 at Veteran Memorial Park, starting at 8 a.m., the Coronado Cougars Cross Country Team competed for Regionals, where they left it all on the course. There was amazing effort put into this race, and some could say their PR and time was executed perfectly.
“I feel I executed my race plan perfectly,” senior Brooke-Lynn Miller said. “I had a great start and was able to get to the front of the pack pretty quickly. I ended up taking the lead a little before the mile marker and led the rest of the race.”
It was a great race that pushed everybody to their limits, and for the Seniors of the Cross Country Team, they are feeling pride in the work they put in, but sad their season is ending with Coronado High School.
“It feels bittersweet, and I’m definitely going to miss my teammates and just the overall team aspect”, Miller said. “I’ve created so many great memories with Coronado’s XC team and I’m happy I was able to be a part of it. I hope our program keeps going up from here and I can’t wait to see what happens to it in the future.”
While some seasons are coming to an end for runners, that doesn’t mean that it’s over. Our Cross Country Team headed to State as they had an amazing performance that definitely gives them high hopes for a win at Reno. Both the men and women’s team did amazing, but the Women’s team exceeded their expectations of being in second place while they believed they were going to get third or fourth.
“I couldn’t believe we as a team ended up getting second place,” Miller said. “Personally, I ended up winning; making it my first time being a Southern Regional Champion. I felt really happy because I’ve been training for a year for this moment.”
With State approaching, the runners have a lot of confidence going into competition, but still have some self reflection so they can always better themselves.
“One thing I would probably need to improve on is being able to kick sooner,” Miller said. “I felt that kicking with a half mile to go was good but if I can kick even sooner, then that would be better.”
Going into this next week, support the Cross Country team as they head to Reno for State. They will be at Rancho San Rafael Park on November 8, 2025, so make sure you support our runners as this will be the last race for some.
