Girls Volleyball Beats Liberty

Ready for the point// Preparing for the point, the Varsity Cougars stand on the balls of their feet ready for the serve. The Cougars put up an impressive performance to take down the Liberty Patriots.

The Coronado Cougars women’s volleyball team defeated Liberty 3-0 away on Thursday, September 24, at 6:30 p.m. The Cougars competed hard in each set, winning by a slim margin in all three of them. The first set Coronado led 25-23, second set, 25-22, and third set 25-20.

It was their 21st game of the season, and have been on a 4 game win streak. The close scores in each set made the game even more intense. The Cougars needed to maintain their positive energy to take the win.

“We went into this game knowing we had a good shot at winning,” senior Tommie Olinger said. “We had a different type of confidence than we’ve had in previous games.”

Coronado is now ranked second in the 5A Southern Desert League because of their outstanding efforts. They have worked hard to gain this achievement. Olinger specifically credits their success to the intentionality behind their practices.

“Everything starts at practice,” Olinger said. “Taking what we did bad in the game and bringing it into practice has really helped us focus on certain things and then apply it.”

On Tuesday, September 29 the Cougars will face Gorman, the team ranked first in the 5A Southern Desert League. While it will be a tough matchup, Olinger says the team is looking forward to the competitive game. She explains how the team plans to approach the matchup.

“We need to take what we applied in the Liberty game and bring it to Gorman,” Olinger said. “We also shouldn’t be afraid because we are a good team.”

Come out to see the exciting game between the two on Tuesday, September 29 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be at home, so make sure to show up and show out for your Cougars!
