The Coronado Varsity Baseball team was in action with their second game of the season on March 2, 2026, at 6 pm, against Palo Verde. The Cougars put up a fight against the Panthers, but came up just short with a score of 4-8.

From the first inning through the final out, the Cougars stayed focused and aggressive. Each run added to the growing energy in the stands, while the team maintained composure and discipline against the Panthers. Their communication and teamwork kept Palo Verde on edge throughout the game.

“When I play I focus on the moment that I am in,” said junior Matthew Smoot. “Staying in the moment helps me keep composure.”

Although it is early in the season, and the Cougars might have lost, the team’s chemistry and dedication is evident. Players continue to put in the work at every practice, demonstrating their commitment to improving and competing at a high level.

“Even though we lost I think we learned from this game,” junior Matthew Smoot said. “The team and I are ready to show our skills the rest of the season.”

With this loss under their belts, Coronado looks to build momentum and use this game as a learning point as the season continues. This weekend the Cougars are heading to St. George to compete in their first tournament of the season. The Cougars are focused on growth, teamwork, and making a statement as they push forward.
