On January 20, 2026, at 6:30 PM, The Coronado Cougars had a home game against the Desert Pines Jaguar absolutely obliterating them with a score of 70-28.
With a lot of determination and work out regiments, the Women’s Basketball teams tied their laces and put all their work out on the court. This team focuses on strength in numbers as a team, as well as individual learning.
“Every single day in the pre-season and when the season starts we use our own trainers,” Alivia Simon said. “I have no trainer anymore so to stay fit I go for runs, go to the gym, and go to practice with my teammates. Our workouts consist of running, pushups, wall sits, etc.”
Now, with all the training they have on their off time, their moves and game winning strategies become explosive. One of the biggest parts of this team is that everyone has their own strengths and together, they all go out on the court and use their skills to make winning shots.
“The highlight of my game was that I was making every single one of my shots and we were rebounding really well as a team, Simon said. “We ran our plays properly and we played as a team. It was a good win for one of our last games.”
Honorable mention doesn’t even begin to cover Simon as she scores 10 points in the first half, and racks 14 points from four free throws, two layups, and one mid range. While the game was good, players can also find an area to improve on, and as they are ending their season, with many being seniors, they want to put their best foot forward and be winners.
“I would want to improve on talking on the floor to help the rest of my team to be more aware since I am in the back defending and I can see the rest of the court,” Simon said. “I want the team to have more energy so we can start off aggressively.”
Power just doesn’t go from an individual, but it comes from a whole team, and while the season is ending, the memories will last forever, even as the seniors leave for great things ahead in their future.
“I will miss the fun memories with my teammates,” Simon said. “My favorite part of my team are our team bonding experiences where we can have fun at random places like team dinners.”
As the season is coming to an end, it’s not done just yet as the Women's Basketball team’s next game is January 28, 2026 against Bishop Gormon Gael’s at 6:30 PM. Be sure to cheer these women on as it is one of their last games, and be ready for next year’s basketball season, Cougars.
