Outer Banks, the suspenseful mystery/thriller Netflix TV series of the summer, has dropped Season 5 on Thursday, August 20, 2026. The six reckless teenagers are back for one more summer of adventure. Excited fans from all around the world have been patiently waiting to see how this highly anticipated show will come to an end, and the end is finally here.
“I think the 3rd season is the best; however, this one was just as entertaining as the others,” junior Alexa Hart said. “The ending of last season was sad, so I liked seeing how they rebounded from the remorse and how they continued the Blue Crown adventure.”
Leading up to the final season, Outer Banks has had around 2.7 billion title streams on Netflix, with a variety of reactions to how the new season would continue the story after one of the iconic, loveble main characters, JJ(Rudy Pankow), died tragically in the previous season. Because he was a fan favorite, his death was very emotional for many Outer Banks lovers.
“I think the new season is too focused on JJ’s death and trying to bring him back, when it should have been motivating for them to continue adventuring in honor of him,” Hart explained. “It definitely isn’t the same without JJ—there's not as much that goes wrong since he really was the life of the party.”
Many loyal Outer Banks fans have also brutally and honestly compared Season 5 to past seasons. Some are fans of the turn that the show has taken, while some miss the old, more adventurous storyline. Although there are only ten episodes per season, each one includes new details and unexpected plot twists, adding to the mystery and intrigue of the show.
“I think it is comparable to other seasons because I like how they continued the storyline from the last season, like Groff and the Blue Crown, while also showing them moving on after JJ was stabbed by his father,” sophomore Saina Jain shared. “However, I really like all the character developments and that Sarah is having a baby because I believe it brings contrast to the adventure plot.”
Season 5 is confirmed to be the last season of the Pogues adventures. The show ends happily with the Pogues recovering $400 million dollars from the Royal Merchant, making all of their adventures worthwhile.
“Although this season wasn't my favorite, I liked watching Rafe become a better person and work together with the Pogues,” junior Raelene Hendron described. “I am going to miss seeing all of the characters on my screen, but I am thrilled with the ending.”
If you've watched Outer Banks since the release of the first season and are remorseful about the fifth season being the end, many thrill-seeking fans and even the critics would say it is definitely worth the watch!
