Serving others with kindness!//Senior Miya Walker is passionate about serving others and giving the people around her an opportunity! Because of her commitment to her school, clubs, and extracurricular activities, she is making the world a better place.
Miya has been in a variety of clubs throughout her high school career such as: Key Club, National Honor Society, Home for Animals, Asian Student Alliance, and Filipino Club. Her great help around the school as well as participation has made lasting friendships and impacts on those around her. Because of all of her clubs that she has joined, she has worked for countless hours thinking about others rather than herself.
“Being involved in multiple clubs has helped me learn how to extend myself and get to know others. I have also gotten to practice my social skills. Learning how to have better social skills will help me in the future because it will allow me to build important relationships with those around me needed to succeed.”
Along with her many clubs, Miya has done orchestra for seven years. She plays the cello and she is very talented. Miya has gone to many out-of-state trips for orchestra with her school and has gotten superior ratings. She loves to perform but also is happy for the friendships she's made in orchestra.
“I love playing the cello in orchestra because it allows me to express myself through music, connect with others, and create beautiful music that brings us all together.”
Miya helped with donation drives with Home for Animals a lot this school year and has brought awareness to people around her about the need for toys and food for dogs and pets who don’t have a home.
“I have participated in Home for Animals specifically this year a lot and it has helped me see others in need rather than just myself. I like helping the animals because I have a dog of my own and I wouldn’t want a dog to not have toys or a home to sleep at night. We make toys and raise awareness so that other people can help the animals as well so I think it is an important club and will help change the lives of many.”
Miya wants to be an optometrist when she is older. This will help others to see better. In order to become an optometrist, it takes a bachelor’s degree, a pass on the Optometry Admission Test, and graduating from a four-year accredited program. Luckily for Miya, she is very smart and takes rigorous courses that will help her in her future. She is an AP Academy student at Coronado as well as an Honor student. Because of her hard work and determination in high school, Miya will be able to achieve whatever she sets her mind on.
“I want to be an optometrist because it sounds very interesting to me and I would love to help others with their eyesight. I want to become an optometrist because I believe seeing the world clearly is essential, and I want to help others experience life to the fullest by giving them better vision and a brighter future.”
Miya plans on going to college to extend her learning after high school and is capable of doing great things. She is a great student, cellist, worker, and most of all friend. Although she has accomplished much in her high school career, she is off to do even greater things in the future! Coronado is lucky to have such a great student. Miya has a bright and bubbly personality and is an amazing light to all those around her.
“I’m so excited for my future, but I am also so grateful for the experiences that high school has given me. I know that it will help me to achieve my goals.”
