The Coronado softball team opened preseason play with a strong start, earning back-to-back wins in scrimmages against the Liberty Patriots and Foothill Falcons on Saturday, February 21 at 12 and 1pm. While official scores were not recorded, the Cougars controlled both matchups and showcased early-season chemistry on both offense and defense.

Coronado first faced Liberty, setting the tone for the preseason with consistent hitting and aggressive baserunning. The Cougars generated steady offensive momentum throughout the game while the defense limited scoring opportunities, allowing Coronado to secure the win.

“Our first innings for both games were looking really good,“ junior Sophie Bendlin said. “We were able to get ahead early and the momentum kept us going.”

The team carried that energy into their second preseason matchup against Foothill. Once again, Coronado demonstrated depth across the lineup, with multiple players contributing at the plate and solid defensive play helping maintain control of the game from start to finish.

“Our bats were on fire,” Bendlin explains. “I was proud of my team because all of us contributed to those games.“

With early wins, the Cougars got to build team chemistry as well. During the game they communicated well, picking each other up when things went wrong and hyping each other up when they made good plays.

“I felt like these games were crucial to bringing us closer together as a team,” Bendlin adds. “We were able to get into the rhythm of playing with each other again.”

The preseason victories give the Cougars early confidence as they prepare for the regular season, highlighting strong teamwork and execution on both sides of the ball. Come out for softball when they play their first league game against Centennial at Anthem Park field 2 at 3pm.
