On Monday, October 5th, the Coronado Women’s Varsity Soccer team faced off against Foothill High school, right here at home. There, Coronado secured yet another victory coming off of their past win just barely a week before against Shadow Ridge. With a sweeping  victory of 5-0, they showcased their immense skill as a team against any school they face.

This game marked their 14th game this season, as well as their 7th win. They continue to produce strong effort and hard work and through their ambition, have been able to secure the title of being ranked 7 in all of Nevada. Each team member brings an important skill and position to the table, one such member being Senior, Megan Meusy.

“I believe that some of the strengths that helped our team to be so successful was our bonding that we have been doing,” Meusy explained. “Additionally, focusing on more on what we can improve on in the attack and where to put the ball as well as where we need to be to be able to put it in the background of the net.”

Without a doubt, soccer, amongst other sports, is a game of strategy. Not only do you have to be intentional in the skills you are developing to add to the team, but you also have to be ten steps ahead in awareness of what your opponents are doing. Our team has been able to do that by putting in hours of practice as well as socially bonding and becoming a unit with one another which has assisted them in taking on any challenge they face.

“I am very proud of us working together and being the one to set the tempo of the game and not coming out of it tired,” Meusy said. “I am also very proud of us getting the first goal and still staying together as a team when they also scored on us.”

In addition to building teamwork skills and refining strategy, one of the most arguably important factors in addition that a team must work together to build is resiliency. While they have maintained a lot of victories this season, they undoubtedly have had to deal with their fair share of losses and ties during games. However, in the midst of the ebbs and flows of the season, even of this very game, they got back up after every loss, after every undesirable turnout, and that has also contributed to their success. Not only have they learned how to get back up, but new skills and a level of resiliency that simply cannot be found by success after success alone.

“I feel ready for the [next] game, I feel like we have bonded together since the beginning of the year and now understand more of how each other plays and what to do with the ball when we get it,” Meusy explained. “We also know more about where we need to focus working on and I believe we have been working on that and we should be able to keep coming out and playing hard like we have our last few games.”

Since October 5th, Coronado has played against Arbor View in an away game on October 7th and secured a tie, updating their current score to be 7-4-4. However, as far as upcoming games go, their next game will be today, Monday, October 12th at and against Faith Lutheran High School at 4:30 p.m. High hopes are on the rise coming off of this next win. It is without a doubt that no matter what field they go onto, they will bring their ambition, hard-work, and unity with them. Let’s continue to support the Women’s Varsity Soccer Team as they face new opponents and more victories!
