Coronado Softball Comes Out on Top Over Basic High School

League Victory//Staying consistent at the plate, the Cougars collected 11 hits in their 4–2 win. With clutch hitting and strong defense, they supported each other and secured the victory.

The Cougars softball team earned a 4-2 victory on Monday at their home field at 3:30pm, showcasing strong offensive production and solid defense throughout the game.

The Cougars battled early after falling behind, quickly responding to tie the game in the second inning. From there, the game remained close, with both teams trading momentum through the middle innings.

“We struggled to get on the board in the beginning but we eventually got back up and secured the victory,” sophomore Anni Mollinedo said.

Coronado took control in the fourth inning with a series of clutch hits. Sophie Bendlin started the rally with a single, followed by a double from Bailey Goldberg and a triple from Summer Gilliam, each driving in a run to give the Cougars the lead for good.

“We were missing 3 of our girls that game so we had to adjust and play in positions some of us haven’t played in a while,” Mollinedo said. “As the game went on we got the hang of it and our bats started to wake up too.”

Gilliam led the offense with an impressive performance at the plate, going 4-for-4 and contributing a key RBI. Multiple players added to the effort, as Coronado totaled 11 hits and saw contributions across the lineup.

“I feel like our whole team contributed to this game’s win,” Mollinedo said. “If we keep up this momentum then we can find the momentum to stay competitive in our tougher games too.”

In the circle, Aubrie Sisler delivered a complete-game performance, allowing just two runs while striking out five. The defense backed her up with consistent play, including a double play that helped limit scoring opportunities.

With a strong combination of timely hitting and steady defense, the Cougars were able to secure the win and continue building momentum as the season progresses.
