Tragedy in Tennessee: The Death of Dolly Parton

One of the most iconic figures of the 21st century was the beloved Dolly Parton who passed away on August 25th, 2026. Known for her incredible music, philanthropy, and compassionate spirit, Parton had a career most people can only dream about in novels. Her nearly 60-year-long singing career featured hits such as “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You,” songs that sold millions of copies.

Brian Sever, Parton’s nephew, announced the news on August 25th via her Instagram. Prior to Parton’s passing, she faced numerous health issues. Parton had chronic kidney stones, which were being treated up until her death. Parton faced issues with her immune system and also further undisclosed kidney problems, though her ultimate cause of death was due to cancer. According to her wishes, Parton’s funeral will be for close family at a future date. 

Dolly Parton won’t ever be forgotten. Already, tributes around the nation are celebrating her life’s work. President Donald Trump has ordered U.S flags all around the United States to be lowered to half-staff for seven days in tribute. In Paris, Tennessee, their Eiffel Tower replica was lit up pink in remembrance. The Empire State Building in New York sparkled pink at midnight as well. Celebrities such as her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus and Eminem have given their public condolences. 

The world has lost a great light, but that doesn’t mean the beacon of Parton’s philanthropy doesn’t continue to shine on. Over the course of her life, Dolly Parton had donated an estimated $600 million to various charitable causes. Parton also had her own charity, the Imagination Library, which was inspired by her unlettered father. The charity sends free books each month to children worldwide from ages 0-5. Since its start in 1995, the Imagination Library has sent 25 million books to children annually. Parton has also donated millions of funds to many other charitable causes through her Dollywood Foundation. 

While Dolly Parton may be gone, her music, songs, and charitable impacts will continue to inspire and be recognized by people all around the world.  As Sever said, “Rest comfortable and may your rhinestones be at ease.”
