Pylon: Beabadoobee's New Album

Pylon on Repeat// Shocking the world of music, Beabadoobee comes out with one of her greatest albums yet. On September 18th, Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus, also known as “Beabadoobee,” released her fourth studio album titled “Pylon.” (Photo Courtesy of Jasmin Kapur).
Compared to Beabadoobee’s other albums, this one is special in that it is more inspired by 90’s rock. She released two songs before it came out, “Sun Has Set” and “Switchblade.” These became very popular quickly, growing her fanbase even larger than before. Junior Devyn Bell explains her feelings towards the album.
“I started listening to Beabadoobee just recently as I started to see a lot of her posts on Instagram. I thought she was pretty cool, and since a lot of my friends listen to her I gave it a listen. I like rock music, but I like her previous album more,” Bell said.
The name of the album is a metaphor representing the connection between us, although we are sometimes at a distance. For her, it is how she explains her relationship with her family when she went on tour and was unable to see them for so long. She wrote most of this while on tour for previous albums.
“For me, it doesn’t have as deep of a meaning because obviously I'm not famous or familiar with being away from my friends and family for a long period of time. But, I do relate with some specific lyrics like the ones in ‘Radio.’ My favorite song on the album is probably ‘Write Me A Letter’ because it sounds a lot like her last album, and I like the sounds,” Bell said.
Within the album, there are many talented collaborators. Some of them are: Hayley Williams (Paramore), Brendan Yates (Turnstile), Chino Moreno (Deftones), and Evan Stephens Hall (Pinegrove). Matty Healy from “The 1975” helped produce it, as he has been friends with Laus for quite some time. With all these rock stars working together, it created a great and intricate listen.
“I listen to ‘The 1975’ and ‘Deftones’ quite often, and I didn’t know they were working with her when she made it, but it makes a lot of sense because it sounds similar to their style and it’s overall a great album,” Bell said.
This will be Beabadoobee’s first global arena-scale headline tour. One notable performance will be on October 5th at Madison Square Garden. It will be a beautiful setup in a magical place. What we have seen so far from her concerts that have already happened is a pylon setup that she sits on while she sings. Although for most of it there are a lot of bright lights and flashing to represent the aggressive nature of the album, there are also some of her older songs played acoustically.
“I do not have a ticket to the concert, but I wish I could go. She doesn’t have any dates in Las Vegas, so it’s kind of hard to travel, especially when a lot of them are on school nights,” Bell said.
This new, upcoming album should be on the top of your list of things to listen to. She is a great artist and, according to many, is just getting better. Her choices of style and collaborators make the album so much more interesting. This album introduces the ideas of connection through themes of growth and self-reflection. Her music allows us to feel certain emotions and relate to things she says even though our lives are not the same.
