It’s been 45 years, and Metallica has completely continued to defy rock ‘n’ roll standards. Initially founded in 1981 by lead vocalist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, the band not only shaped rock but  considered some of the founding fathers of the thrash metal genre.

From October 1st, 2026 through March 13th, 2027, Metallica will ‘take over’ Las Vegas with their new Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere. There will be a total of 24 shows over the next five months, with a unique twist on typical concert formatting in two distinct ways.

The average concert dates for a rock band typically fall on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Metallica, however, will play on weekends and, based on availability and month, play on certain weekdays as well.

Metallica also introduced a “No Repeat Weekend” tradition, meaning that during Thursday through Saturday concert pairs, no song will be repeated during the same weekend. For example, if fans attend an entire weekend, they will hear 16 different songs on a Saturday night versus if they attended on Thursday night, which would also be 16 different songs, with no repeats for both days. Essentially, for every concert, there is a different setlist, completely changing the way typical concerts work. The average rock band follows the same setlist every single concert; Metallica revolutionized a different way to create a setlist.

The concert experience is also very different. The Sphere, initially opened on September, 29th, 2023, has grown into one of the most desired concert venues nationwide. The graphics, uniqueness and acoustics of the venue make it one of the most engaging and elusive residency venues in Nevada and across the United States. Metallica’s residency is no different, with 10,000 seats, 16K wraparound screens and songs such as “Master of Puppets” coming to life through advanced 3D graphics.

Metallica isn’t the first band to headline at the Sphere, with U2 being the initial residency at  the Sphere’s opening back in 2023, ending theirs in March 2024. The Backstreet Boys have the current residency alongside Metallica, with their 54 shows grossing an estimated $150 million and counting.

The brand new residency will continue throughout March 2027. Metallica will continue to revolutionize the concert scene with incredible graphics, seating and a unique auditory system that the Sphere has yet to see. Make sure to grab a ticket for Life Burns Faster before Metallica leaves Vegas for good.
