Over the past four years of her high school career, Senior Brooke-Lynn Miller has been pushing herself with training to compete in many meets and getting a variety of medals, from invitationals to state championships. As she builds her endurance, speed, and athleticism, she placed in the top 5 in the State Championships last season for both the 4x800 relay and 1600m, and racked up a total of eleven medals throughout her cross country and track seasons so far.
“I have won medals for all sorts of meets,” Brooke-Lynn Miller said. “I have seven regional medals, some from track and some from XC. I have a total of four state medals; three of those from track and one from XC.”
While Miller trains and works hard to win, that is not the only reason why she does cross country and track. For her, the sport isn’t just for the title; she loves sports because of the teamwork, the competing, and just the adrenaline of running, and the winning is just the cherry on top to show her dedication to her sport. To continue her top placement in cross country and track, she works rigorously to be in the best mental and physical state she can be, and that is achieved by her workout regimen.
“About half of my training is easier runs that are between 45-60 minutes long,” Miller said. “This is how I’m able to build up my aerobic base so I can handle harder, more intense workouts. I also do a lot of strength training so I can save myself from injuries. I weight train twice a week, and depending on how I feel during the week, I will usually take a rest day on Saturday.”
As this is Miller’s last year of being a part of the XC and track team, she wants to leave a bigger mark and impact on her legacy here at Coronado than ever before.
“Some big goals I have are to win state in the 800m, 1600m, and the 3200m,” Miller said. “I feel confident in my training and preparation, and I can’t wait for my track season to start.”
Miller is an athlete, but to many, she is also a friend, child, sibling, and a great and inspiring student here at Coronado. Miller is enrolled in four dual credit classes this year, with one dual credit class last year. On top of proving herself to be academically inclined and athletically talented, she is also very involved in her family, and leaves some words of wisdom as she moves on to amazing things in her life.
“Since I’m the oldest sibling, I usually have to give rides to my younger siblings,” Miller said. “I also babysit and help with chores around the house. I run to the grocery store if we need something.”
While it’s a big loss for the Coronado Cougars, California Baptist University will gain an amazing student in this upcoming fall semester. Not only will she be part of the D1 Cross Country team, but she also will study kinesiology to become a physical therapist. Brooke-Lynn Miller will always be a part of the Coronado Cougars, with the legacy she leaves behind and the memories she’s made with her friends, peers, and as an athlete here on campus. Brooke-Lynn, good luck with all your endeavors as a CBU Lancer. Everyone is rooting for you.
